SHANE WESTON – BMX – FLY BIKES 2014

Here’s Shane Weston’s newest video where he shows you what his new Fly Isla set up is capable of. SUBSCRIBE: http://www.smarturl.it/SubToTCU “Shane’s one in … Video Rating: 4 / 5     This is the first Fly Bikes ad featuring their newest rider Shane Weston which is featured in the newest issue of Ride BMX. I am not 100% sure if the second barpsin is in the opposite rotation, but even if it’s not, that’s a serious line.   Shane Weston is part of the newly emerging Nashville, Tenn. scene, but he’s bringing something slightly different to the table: his originality. Shane does a lot of unique tricks in a lot of unique places. He’s also extremely well rounded, from box jump antics to tech borderline-flatland moves. And if all that wasn’t enough, unlike most other riders out there that seep originality, Shane isn’t enshrouded in mystery. He’s eager to produce, easy to get along with, and just getting started. Recently, we caught up with Shane to learn more about the person behind the unique riding, and Shane delivered. Check the interview below, and be sure to check out the exclusive photo gallery courtesy of Andrew White. Age: 22 Hometown: Murfreesboro, Tenn. Riding Spots: Nashville’s Court House in downtown. Stair sets in every size you could imagine! Why do you ride BMX? Hmm, I guess love. I have never thought about it. Just something that has been embedded in my head for nine years now. Your favorite BMX trick is? Barspins. They’re kind of my safety trick. If they don’t feel good, I’m probably not having a good session. Is Nashville turning into the new Austin? Nope, but it would be sweet if it did. Everyone move here! The last person you text messaged was? Seth Kimbrough What did you say? “Yo, what you doing?”  What’s one thing you regret? I stopped going to the gym. List one word to describe yourself: Pisces! Your best friend is: Stephen Weston. Something you wish you had more of: GBs on my...

Paul Osicka STANDARD BiKE BMX

Video Rating: 5 / 5   Paul Osicka is like a cult-hero in flatland. You might go for two years without seeing him ride, but you’d still know he was out there evolving his riding into somthing beyond belief. An interview with Paul has been long overdue, so this month we made plans to get things done in a parking lot somewhere outside of Chicago. A few days before I left for this trip, Paul called and said he was feeling sketchy. He really wanted this story to come out positive and inspiring, but he didn’t know if he was in the right mindset to do that. When we did the actual interview he agonized over every question, and the resulting answers reveal an interesting person who is a lot more than just another guy on a twenty-inch bike. How long have you been riding for Standard? Six years. How did you get on Standard in the first place? I went to a New Year’s jam at Rampage skatepark shortly after the “A Few Good Men” video came out and I think Rick noticed how much I had progressed since the video, so he offered to help me out. He started sending me shirts and little things I needed like axles and pegs, and it slowly evolved into where it is now.. How did that lead up to having a signature bike Standard Tao? I guess you could say I intimidated him into it. I gave him no choice… Did Rick come to you or did you go to him with the idea? I went to him with it. It didn’t happen for years after I went to him. It took a long time to actually happen. It was an idea in my head for a lot of years, and I guess he finally got around to it. Did your bike come out exactly like you wanted? Yeah, it did, actually. It took such a long time to come out because I wanted it to be just right. I think it came out really nice. Riding-wise you’re doing a lot of front wheel stuff and you’ve got two front brake levers. What started you down that path? I’ve always been into front wheel stuff. I guess there was a point where I totally went over to front wheel stuff. And the double-brake thing, it just seemed like it could help me do a lot more things and open more doors. I’m all about making things easier on myself (laughter). Flatland is challenging enough. I don’t need to make it any harder on myself, you know? How much time do...

How has it been to ride for such a popular brand? Awesome, it feels so good being part of such a well rounded team that love BMX.  Like myself. Give us a quick rundown on what sort of setup Ben Basford rides.   Well, just your ‘traditional’ style BMX bike really. Long top tube (21″), none of this low scooter style bikes, reasonable height,  achunky seat so you can sit down, 27/28″ wide bars, 2 pegs, no brakes, and no crazy colours. My bike is actually dialled in at the moment. Unlike usual. You’re pretty artistic in the fact that you colour your left pedals in with crayon, why is that? Hah! Well.. Thats because one side of my left pedal is bald from crank/pedal slides and one side is fine.. What do you prefer to ride? I like to ride anything me.. From a curb.. To a skatepark.. Street, rail, trails, vert, flat ground… Plastic or metal pedals?   Well.. My shins have paid their dues to metal pedals for over 8 years.. Now I will happily pay to replace plastics every couple of months. Plastic or metal pegs? Ahh, I never thought I’d say this as I rode metal pegs for 9+ years and was reluctant to switch, but plastics are good fun! Steel is for the real men though… BOTH! If you could have any signature product what would it be? Obviously a signature frame would be a dream for anyone, but I’d also like to design some bars or a seat. Where is Ben Basford headed in 2014?   I’d like to get out of this country at least few times this year on my bike. I definitely need to go to Malaga this year to ride Rubens park! It looks like a dream park with endless lines, and hopefully a trip to Barcelona with Kink later in the year Finally, any thanks? Thanks to Seventies distribution and to Kink Bikes for everything I have. I appreciate it all! Ze at Archetype. Also, thanks to all my friends I ride with for the good times and anyone who has ever helped me out along the way. And...
